hello, my name is roo!

And this is my carefully crafted and coded webbed site! (♥u♥)
I made this site just to prove to myself I could do it, so I built majority of this site from the ground up! With the help of some snippets and scripts I nabbed here and there, of course. You can see all the credits in the buttons page in the nav bar!

"So what is this site all about then?" It's simply a first of many, I guess. I am learning webdev for many reasons but I list down the most prominent ones below:

creative expression

Like most people who eventually turn to indieweb, I've grown tired of the state of the internet as of late. Gone are the days where you could spend hours exploring different websites and get lost in rabbit holes of niche interests.

Stumbling upon neocities was a blessing, really. Not only was it filled with people's true thoughts and ideas, they were realized in ways they wanted, not just text on a social media app. I just really love going through people's sites and seeing what experiences people can think of and want to share to the world, it takes me back!

Also I'm tired of being just a consumer. I want to create!

coding is for everyone

Back then, I was convinced that site creation and coding was for smart cookies- not like me. Now that I've grown and matured I realized nothing was really stopping me other than my own mentality. I could absolutely build websites if I wanted, learn hard things if I wanted.

I'm here to convince the younger me there was nothing to be afraid of, and that even a kid could do it if they put in the work!

the web should be accessible

Believe me, I have a MASSIVE love for layouts and designs of old. Pixel graphics (I make them!), forums, websites with tiny display fonts, there's just a lot I miss about early '00s internet. But with the web growing I'd love if people could grow into loving it, not just us oldies longing for the past.

And for me to implement that in my own work, I'm trying a mix of old and new techniques here. I love simplicity and convenience, and I'm sure people with accessibility readers would love that too. The internet has improved in many ways and regressed in some, it's up to you to choose how to improve on it!

This website is web responsive (at least, it aims to be) and will continue towards a path of something that can be enjoyed by many.

YES, the font is not as legible to some. I'm going to find a way to use alternatives because I just love this one so much I still want it as an option ok bye
